Dear new student

We welcome you to your first semester at Aalborg University Esbjerg, and we are looking forward to give you a study environment filled with creativity and professional depth.

At the website, which is associated with the first two semesters of your education you will find, among other things, our FAQ, with answers for many questions regarding your first year of study. You are also welcome to contact your study secretary.

You will meet your tutors on your first study day. The tutor is an older student, who will help you and your fellow students get to know each other through study-relevant activities during the first time of study. Read more about tutors and the activities in the rus handbook (link will be visible as soon as possible).


Your study has one student counselor, Heidi Valdkilde Abrahamsen, who can guide you through academic issues, study environment, examination rules etc.

INFORMATION REGARDING STUDY START will be visible as soon as posible.

You are encouraged to attend the international welcome day. On the international welcome day, you will be registered and receive important practical information.

Please keep yourself updated here regarding meeting place and time on the first day of study.


UniStart is an online platform where you can find your Aalborg University email address, view the status of your application, and read important messages from the Admissions Office.

In order to log in to UniStart, please use your registration number specified in your admission or confirmation letter sent to your email address.


Together with your AAU mail, Moodle is our primary communication channel for you as a student. Moodle is Aalborg University’s Learning Management System for enrolled students, professors, and secretaries. Moodle contains semester plans, calendar, schedule, book lists, semester- and course descriptions, exam plans, and information regarding study-related activities, events etc. This information will be available shortly before commencement of study, so please keep yourself informed.

At ITS website you will find guidelines for Moodle and mail and recommendations for selecting the right computer for your education. As a student at AAU you have free access to a variety of software solutions and web services. You can find the overview HERE. 


FACTUM Books is your online student book store at Aalborg University. At you can find and order your curriculum books. The books are ordered online, and are delivered to the library, here in Esbjerg, in the foyer where you can pick them up, or they can be sent home to you by post.


About the study start test
You must pass a study start test during the first weeks of your new study. Participation in the test is mandatory.
The test is a math screening (quiz), which is used to give yourself and us a quick overview of your math skills.
You will receive feedback on the study start test with a recommendation on which areas in mathematics you should possibly improve.

Pass criteria
The criteria for passing the study start test are to participate in the test by physical attendance and completion of the mathematics screening (quiz).
There is no requirement for a certain number of correct in the quiz to pass.

Consequence of not attending the study start test
If you do not attend the study start test, you will have the opportunity to participate in one re-examination.
If you have not participated in either the ordinary examination/study start test or the re-examination, you will be discharged from the program before 1 October.

Use of your data
The purpose of using data from the Study start test is to develop the quality of our study programs and teaching.
We use the mathematics screening to assess the students’ mathematical skills, in order to better organize the professional level of the teaching. 
Of course, the people who process and use our data are all subject to confidentiality.

Course schedule and book lists

Moodle is the intranet used at Aalborg University. Through this network, you can find important information about your study programme, such as course schedule, academic calendar, course descriptions, and book lists. Your information will be published in Moodle during the last two weeks before your semester starts.

If you do not see any information in Moodle when you log in, it is not yet available. We therefore recommend that you check back regularly.

In Moodle, you can also see how to get in touch with your study secretary, if you have questions regarding your study programme. Your study secretary can also contact you via your AAU email.

Moodle login

You can log in to Moodle as soon as you have received your AAU e-mail account. However, your information in Moodle may not be available before late August. 

To log into Moodle, you will need your AAU e-mail account details, which you got from UniStart.

  • Username to Moodle: your AAU e-mail address.
  • Password to Moodle: the same password that you use for your AAU e-mail account.
